The unique "Malatya" Åžekerpare apricots, grown in eastern Turkey, especially in and around Malatya, stand out among hundreds of apricot varieties worldwide. So what makes the Malatya apricot so special? In addition to its soft texture, sweet and aromatic structure, and its pit not adhering to the fruit fibers, the pit of this apricot can be easily removed without cutting the fruit. After drying in the sun, the pit is separated from the fruit within 1-2 days using the "patlatma" method. Thanks to these features, it is considered to be the only apricot variety known as "whole pitted" or Åžekerpare. Dried apricot production is a very laborious process; the pitting process is carried out by hand during the harvesting and drying stages.

Botanical name: Prunus Armeniaca L.
Origin: Malatya
Harvest Time: July
The most common varieties: Hacıhalilaoğlu, Kabaaşı, Çataloğlu, Soğancı, Hasan Bey

A medium-sized dried apricot contains about 25 calories. Rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, iron, folic acid and dietary fiber, dried apricots are a great snack option.

Turkey is the leader in dried apricot production worldwide. Meeting 60% of global production, Turkey also continues to dominate this area by accounting for 71% of world dried apricot exports. This strong performance makes the country an indispensable center for the sector.

Malatya apricot was officially approved by the European Commission in July 2017 by receiving the Geographical Indication (PDO) registration granted by the European Union for the protection, promotion and marketing of unique and local products.
